outlook.pst wont get smaller

I have deleted all my emails but my outlook.pst file is still 1.9gb, why wont it reduce in size?

is it a personal folder .pst or an archive? if an archive it won't get smaller because it is, well, archived data.
if a personal folder right click on your personal folder in outlook and choose properties the folder size. what does it show for size?
also did you delete your deleted items?

Depending on what version of Outlook, look at the Properties page for the personal folders & the Advanced button. Then there should be a 'Compact Now' button.
