Hi,

I run an NT4 domain, running Exchange 5.5, Users are connecting to this using Win98 and MSOutlook97. In the past, outlook updated with new messages no problem. However, recently, it will not update, even hitting F5 to send/receive dosen't work. But if you exit outlook and restart it, you could have several new messages. This is happening with all mailboxes.
Any ideas

any changes made recently to the server, firewall (if you have one), or any other network components?

No,

Nothing has changed recently, it just started happening about a month ago. Sometimes it an outlook client will update no problem, other times it just won't until you exit and restart outlook

single exchange server organization? If so, run an offline defrag on the PRIV.EDB. May be a minor inconsistency in the IS...

delete the *.ost file off a workstation and restest
look in log to see if you data base has gotten to big
exchange sbs is 1 gig standard is 16 gig.
try using exmerge to remove large e-mail then use eseutility
to defrag/compact the database.
look and see if all your services are running.
