I am using Outlook 2000 and when I want to send/receive my messages, I get the following message : "Some messages couldn't be retrieved from the server".

What's the reason for this? Is there a solution?

Microsoft say....

OL2000: (CW) Internet E-mail Service Fails to Download Messages (Q199990)

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Outlook 2000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE : These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu, click About Microsoft Outlook . In About Microsoft Outlook , you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS
When using the Internet E-mail service to retrieve mail from your POP3 e-mail server, you may receive the following error message:

Some messages couldn't be retrieved from the server. If problem persists, please contact your administrator.
If you receive this error message, Microsoft Outlook does not retrieve some or all of your new e-mail.

CAUSE
The Internet E-mail service does not work with a POP e-mail server that does not support the optional TOP command, if any of the following conditions are true:

The option to Leave On Server is selected (checked).

-or-

Connection Type other than "LAN" is selected (checked).

RESOLUTION
Set the Internet E-mail service to connect via LAN and don't select to leave messages on the server. To do this, follow these steps:

On the Tools menu, click Services .

In the list of services, click to select the Internet E-mail service and then click Properties .

On the Connections tab, click to select the Connect using my local area network (LAN) check box.

On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Leave a copy of messages on server check box.

Click OK twice to close all dialogs. Click OK if you are prompted that these changes will only go into effect after you restart Outlook.

Quit and restart Outlook.

Outlook is installed with "Connect via LAN" and the option "Leave on server" isn't checked.

I still have the problem.
Other suggestions?

In our company we use a FirstClass server because most of the people uses FirstClass Client but our departement uses Outlook 2000.
Our mail uses a POP3 server.

Do you get any messages at all when you send and receive? Or just a couple?

You might want to make sure that your POP3 details for the server are correct, and that it is set up to allow your outlook to download the files.

For example in Yahoo, you have to change a setting in their Options page to allow you to retreive the POP3 mail into your inbox. Jay~

I get some messages but not all messages. Afterwards there aren't any messages on the server left.

My account settings are correct because I can sent and receive(some) messages.
