Hi,

Can someone advise why Outlook is grouping emails to / from the same person under two different headings.

1. Their user name (EG. John Smith)
2. Their email address ?(EG John.Smith@mydomain.com)

These are internal emails from domain user to domain user, but when searching they are grouped under two different headings randomly?

Why is this happening and how do we stop it.

Thanks,

Doesn't happen with ours.
But it once did happen with mails that were sent before that user was in the Global Contacts List.
Maybe that's why.

That's strange!
Is the grouping truly randomly or were the ones using full email address perhaps sent from a mobile device or via OWA?

OK, we have worked out what Outlook is doing.

If the user types a part of the recipients name, and waits a few seconds for it to resolve to an internal email account in the global address list, then that is how Outlook sorts / groups the email.

However, if the user, uses their actual email address as the recipient, then Outlook uses that as the grouping / sorting.

Even though both resolve to the same person and the same email account, Outlook sees them as different recipients as I guess textually they are.

This is the phenomenon causing my users concern, which I assume cannot be resolved other than them ensuring they choose either one or the other recipient type when emailing them?
