HI
Is it possible to set up a macro or something the test the 'to' field and if it contains a specific name then a specific file will be attached to the message perhaps a specific message to

I believe this is readily possible, but the specifics on acheiving it are quite complicated. It will also depend on which version of outlook you are using. Outlook 2000 & later support the creation of macros in VB, whereas I have not seen this function in Outlook 97.

There is a fairly comprehensive help file on this. If you open outlook, goto Tools, Macro, VBEditor (outlook 2002), it will load the VBA editor. You can then search the object browser for the relevant objects, then use the help file with these, & hopefully be able to forge something useful. However, I think it could prove quite challenging... thanks Joodman, I will give it a try
I dont hagve any experience with VB just started tinkering with access but am curious so it will be a challenge
Thanks again

You could also look at the message rules. Looking at the wizard, it looks like it can only run when a message is received, or after a message is sent. However, you might be able to customise it sufficiently to achieve what you want... James Goodman

Thanks again Jim

Just to let you know
I’ve made some progress by using access what I have done is create a database and have reports attach to outlook in excel format that solved the attaching a specific file bit
I wonder if you know whether I can have memo field in my database and when I hit the send report to file it does as it does now but also sends the memo as text in the message field that would be step 2 and if that works all I have to do is figure out hoe to associate the attachment or memo to the mail recipient
Maybe I am being too adventurous but there is nothing like enthusiasm
