Quick question regarding Outlook for MAC.

One of the directors in my organization uses a MAC laptop and uses Outlook for MAC to connect to the enterprise Exchange Server 5.5. Here's the specs:

MAC OS X Version 10.3.6.
Outlook for MAC 2001.
Connecting to an Exchange 5.5 Server on Win2K Server.

Basically, the user's Personal Folders on her Outlook seem to get corrupted every so often. I haven't been able to track the user's activity so I don't know why or when exactly it happens but the end result is Outlook throwing this error:

"Errors have been detected in the personal folders file"

The previous admin performed a temporary fix every time by exporting the personal folders to a Windows PC and running some SCANPST program that corrects the errors. Then the folders are returned and we wait for the problem to happen again.

Has anyone encountered this before? Is this a fixable problem or must I continue patching this up every month or so?

I have seen this before, and did the scanpst also. I don't know of another solution for MACS, at least not yet. Sorry I am not anymore help.

Outlook for Mac 2001 is an OS 9 program. Thus, it must be running in Classic rather than OS 10. I wonder if it might not be better to upgrade to the latest Entourage 2004 (part of Office 2004) which is native OS X.

Software: XL2002 on Win2K
Humanware: Older than dirt

That's the plan for next fiscal year. I just wondered if I could get this headache over with or if I'll have to perform the same fix over & over.

We have seen this issue many times and it is happenign more frequently nowadays. Though we are running Exchange 2000, the issue is the same. What we have narrowed the issue down to is the size of the pst. Though Microsoft states theat the pst can be a maximum of 2G, we have seen issues start to crop up around 750M. When the size gets larger then that, the issue becomes more prevalent. Outlook just can not seem to handle files thatlarge on the Mac.
Don't get me wrong, you can have many psts on your system that are larger then 750M, but you end up running a risk. Space on the harddrive and memory does not seem to be a factor to the issue, only the size. We have coached some users to keep to this size and they are working better. Others who have not listened have lost the files.
There are applications out there that say they will recover these files. I am going to be attempting one today since one of our users blew past the 2G mark on the mac and needs the email back.

Best of luck!

Dave

Just a warning, Entourage is a bit of a nightmare with Exchange.

I am a few years into it, and the nightmares have not ceased. I am pushing that people either use Outlook for Mac, or Outlook in VirtualPC.

just a small warning.

My two cents: Don't use PST files, use Exchange. That is what it is there for. Don't use Entourage, use Outlook. Entourage is "a bit of a nightmare" as rliebsch says.
