This happens every other week. My Outlook (and some other users) will just timeout and then a message pops up in the right hand conrner of the screen that says....

Outlook is is retrieving data from the MS Exchange Server....

It will sit there for quite a while and then error out. It's like it loses network connectivity to it somehow.

Anyone see this before and have suggestions on what to check?

I run Exchange 5.5 on NT4.0 SP6a. My Domain controller is a Windows 2003 Server and all clients run Outlook 2002.

TIA,

P'

If clients are using WinXPSP2 make sure the Windows firewall is off.

Hi
No...doesn't seem to matter which OS it is. My laptop runs Win2k and does it periodically too.

Thanks though.

Unfortunately, no. Nothing unusual in the EVT Logs.

I know...it's strange but there's got to be something I'm missing. Maybe the server is getting flakey on me. It's getting pretty old now. It's a Dell server running NT 4.0 SP 6a and Exchange 5.5.

Thanks for the reply.

Are the set of affected users linked in some way... on the same Mailstore?

Can you ping the exchange server while this failure is happening - how long does it last?

Actually...because of the age of the server and diskspace issues etc etc....all my users run local pst files.

as for pinging, I never thought of that. Although I can still open my address book and see my subscriber list when it happens.
