Outlook hangs when deleting a message

Has anyone seen this behavior? The senior partner at my firm has a consistent problem when reading and deleting e-mail. If he deletes the mail as he's reading it (i.e., the message is open when he hits the delete button), he gets an error: Outlook has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. I've checked the event log but see nothing of significance. He is (of course!) the only user with this problem. He's on Win2k, running Outlook 2k, with Exchange 5.5 on the backend. I've swapped out machines, recreated his profile, recreated his mailbox, all to no avail. :-(

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!! [lipstick2]

That is certainly a head scratcher especially with all that you have already done.

So I take it when the message is not opened it can delete without a problem? Is it any mail item that is open or only particular types (i.e. plain text, RTF, HTML). Any other forms that have this same issue such as TASKS or CALENDAR ITEMS?

Just for the sake of argument try opening Outlook using the /safe switch and see if you still get the error when performing the same action. joegz
