Exchange 2007 SP3 SBS 2008 Sp2.

I have added a Win7 client with Office 2010 Pro. Outlook already had an account active. Client works OK but when I open Outlook I first had to find it's .pst file. Now if I click on any of the tabs (File) it Outlook hangs and will not close even in task manager. In this state it seems impossible to close the machine down except by the power button. The (standard) user has not yet been linked to an exchange mailbox (at least I have taken no action to do so).

Advice appreciated. PS I have done an office repair cycle.

Thanks for your time.

Is this the users account that was running Outlook 2007?
Have you tried doing it through the control panel -> mail icon.
Either deleting the profile or adding the .pst

some switches you could try

Well, I've got round the problem somehow. But to get Outlook which already had an account configured (to the ISP) I had to remove that account. Then when I configured a new account and aimed it at Exchange with the same user email name it picked up the emails and ran OK.

However. That raises the question in my mind when using POP3 is how to get the original pst file into Outlook when it has been configured for Exchange as neither Outlook or Exchange will have knowledge of the earlier emails (in the pst file saved before reinstall of the OS or otherwise).

Is it safe to import a pst file into outlook while it is connected to an Exchange mailbox?

Thanks for your time.

Yes its safe to Open the pst file in outlook, that would be standard practice for a lot of people including me.
BTW you could import the pst file into the Exchange mailbox. I wouldn't I would just open the pst in Outlook.
It would look like this
import-mailbox -identity "DUDES NAME" -PSTFolderPath C:\SOMEPSTFOLDER
and needs to be done from a x86 [32bit] machine not on the exchange box.
