Outlook freezes in mail merge

Running Office 2000 pro, every time I mail merge it freezes up, even if I just choose just a few people in my contact list. Tried reinstalling. Any ideas?

Did you completly un-install previous OUTLOOK before re-install??[ponder]

No, I was worried it would delete the personal information ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, .....nobody home. :)

tried full uninstall and still no go ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, ringring, .....nobody home. :)
