I use Outlook Express 5 with Windows 98 on my desktop, with an ISP through my normal phone line so I don't want to be online any longer than necessary. I can't get OE to automatically disconnect after sending & receiving, even though I've checked the "Hang up...." box.

Details:
OE is set to "Work online"
TOOLS>ACCOUNTS> has only got one account set up, with the details of my ISP connection. It is listed as "Connection: Any Available"
TOOLS>ACCOUNTS>PROPERTIES>CONNECTION> has the "Always connect to this account using:" box unchecked. I tried it checked with the ISP account selected, but then OE wouldn't send and receive at all.
TOOLS>OPTIONS>GENERAL> has the "Send and receive at startup" box unchecked.
TOOLS>OPTIONS>CONNECTION> has the "Hang up after sending and receiving" box checked.
When I click SEND/RECEIVE, the Connections dialog box appears with my ISP details and I click CONNECT. The send & receive action proceeds as normal and the last thing seen on the status is "Disconnecting..." and all the dialog boxes disappear, but the computer stays connected. I then have to right-click the double screen icon next to the clock to disconnect manually.
I know it's not the end of the world, but has anybody seen this problem before?

To start off with, make sure the DUN settings for your ISP are correct. There may not be a signal coming back from your ISP to tell OE or DUN it is ok to disconnect. With regards to not being able to specify which account to use, check the Internet settings that are shared are ok, there isn't a proxy set and that you can set a default account and use it with Internet Explorer.
