Outlook Express retrieve mail twice

I run Outlook Express 6.0 on XP pro. First I set the outgoing mail/incoming mail server using LAN IP of the mail server (exchange 5.5 on NT4). It retrieve all mails. When I am out of office, I change the outgoing mail/incoming mail server IP to WAN IP, and click send/receive. It retieve all mails from the server again.

How to set to only retrieve once?

I have seen this happen.
Just trying to remember the cause and I'm sure it came down to not having both set up on Outlook Express ie LAN and External address. One over rides the other causing a loop. Have a think about it as I can't exactly remember. It was a while ago. It made obvious sense though when I resolved it at the time.
