I have someone who uses Ouotlook Express and all of a sudden in her new message window the tools menu does not give her the option for request a read receipt and in the main OE tools menu it doesn't give an "Options" choice.
I can't find any place to change these settings.
Has anyone any clues?
Thanks.

With a new messate open, have her click View > Toolbars, and see if the Standard toolbar is checked. If not, click it and it should reappear.

Thanks, I'll have her try that.

Nope, that did'n't help. That only opens or closes the standard icon bar. It's the tools "menu" that doesn't give her the option (command is not part of the std iconbar) for request a read receipt and the main OE tools menu doesn't give an "Options" choice.

With the new email open, see if she has Tools > Request Read Receipt (In the menu of the new email, not the main menu)

She doesn't.
She is using Win98 and has updated from MS.

I have Win2K, and OE6, so I guess I am not much help from here. Sorry. Good luck.

I'm on XP and feel equally useless.
Thanks

Is "Always show full menus" checked under View >> Toolbars >> Customize... >> Options?

I hate that setting; most worthless feature within Outlook...

For kicks I always turn it back on everyone desktop that I work on... LOL

P.S. Look under View >> Toolbars >> Customize... >> Commands as well..

Thanks GVN:
I don't remember "Always show full menus" as an option in Win98 Outlook Express.
I have an unused hard drive that I am going to format with Win 98 tonight and see what is there. It's really the memory that's really failing as I haven't used 98 for... years.

Try right clicking in the grey area on a toolbar (not on any buttons) and choose customize. Then from the Current toolbars box, click RESET.

Did that, thanks... Nothing.

A friend of mine also has just lost their "Tools, Options" menu. They are using Win98se and OE 6

I will watch this to see if some can come up with a setting in the registry to bring it back.

I tried an experiment this evening. I formatted an old hdd with W98SE, Win2K and XP Home and found that W98 install came with ver 5.00.2612.200 and that didn't have the options. Once I updated to Exoplorer 6.00 the options were there. In the Win2k install 5.00.2919.6700 was the version and it came with the options.
She updated Win98 and was relieved to have the options once more.
The mystery now is, how did her Win98 drop the updated version she had before she moved house last week...
Very scary indeed !! The thread remains open to contributions
Thanks one and all
