Hi

Ive just built up a computer with windows xp on.

I want to use outlook express for my email but the spell checker is in french.

All the region settings, and language settings within xp are set to english uk!

in outlook when i go to change the language for the spell checker the only option is in french! there is no other option to change it to. its like its been fixed in french. i have used a windows xp sp2 install disk.

Thank you for your help in advance

Luke

Assuming you have Office 2007 installed, it is that which is causing the problem.

Microsoft offer a little bit of information here but all they suggest is downloading and installing a free spell checker.

According to Patrick Schmid (see his blog) you can get round the problem by installing the English dictionary from Office 2003 or Office XP if you still have discs for either of them.

Enjoy,
Tony

Hi Tony

Yes that is correct i do have office 2007 installed.

i have both office 2000 and office 2003 disks. How is it that i go about installing the dictionary from either of these disks??

Thank you for your help

Luke

If you do a Custom Install of Office 2003 you should be able to install the English Proofing Tools without any other components.

On the first panel UNcheck all the individual applications and check "Choose advanced customization"

Then in the treeview on the next panel, click on the arrow for "Office Tools" and choose "Not available"
Then click on the arrow for "Office Shared Features" and choose "Not available".
Then expand "Office Shared Features", and expand "Proofing Tools" within it.
Then click on the arrow for "English" and choose "Run from my Computer".
Then install it!

A word of caution: take care only to install the proofing tools. Installing some other bits could mess up your Office 2007 installation.

Enjoy,
Tony
