I set up Outlook Express; it insists on being my default e-mail program.

I do not want this.

How do I change it?

When I click on tools/options/general, there is a notification that it is the default messaging program, but there is nowhere that I have found where to change it.

Thank you.

I believe it is on the very first page near the bottom when you go into tools - options. Just remove the check mark and then run some other mail program and let it become the default.

Or use Internet Explorer, Options, Programs and set your default e-mail client there.

Thanks to all who answered.

Don, there is no such choice in OE.

Smah, I do not use IE.

Thanks, sniper.

The choices in IE are Outlook Express and Hotmail, neither of which I want to use.

I use Yahoo! e-mail.

And I am not real happy with it!

Your Honour, Outlook Express is a program that is used to send/download email that is hosted on an external server. If you dont want it to be your default program, you need to install something else to do the job.

As far as I know, Yahoo email is not a program, it is a host of web based email. If you are not happy with Yahoo, you need to look at another free provider such as googlemail etc, or alternatively buy a domain name such as judgehopkins.com from 1and1.com or similar, then configure your email program ^^ to retreive and send your email.

Thanks!

I appreciate everyone's help.

All the suggestions from every poster have been good.

To make make Yahoo's webmail the default e-mail client, you can either make a registry change, or install yahoo messenger.

You could go to and download Thunderbird. After installing it will migrate your mail settings from Outllok Distress so you don't have to do it manually and it should just start running.

If you are using the Yahoo mail online because you are a user of SBC/AT&T/(pick a name) internet, you don't have to use the Yahoo client online. You can set up the POP3 program (such as Thunderbird) using your internet login and password and collect your mail from AT&T's server that way. If you already had that working in Outlook Express but just didn't like it, that will all be moved over (including your mail) by Thunderbird and you shouldn't have to do anything.

If you are using Yahoo mail just because it is free, and it has nothing to do with your internet provider then I would also suggest you switch to GMail, which allows you to download your mail to your PC for free. I believe Hotmail is also charging for POP3 access now, except for those of us who have had it so long we are grandfathered into the ability to download our mail for free....

I use Mozilla primarily, backed up by Opera, Safari, and IE.

I have been using e-mail (web-based and client) for 25 years.

Let me tell you...the internet is getting worse, not better.
