Outlook Express freezes

I am using Outlook Express on a 2 year old Dell. I have have deleted a lot of emails, but my PC freezes when I attempt to empty the deleted folder. When I attempt to compact the DBX file, PC feeezes. Help. Thanks.

With OE closed, delete the file Deleted Items.dbx. Then re-open OE.

Or try deleting parts from the deleted folder instead of all at once.
