Outlook Express Folder Problem

When I use Outlook Express I keep getting an error message "Folder could not be displayed" and "Possible causes are: Low disk space. Low memory".
It is very odd because it changes which folder has the problem. Sometimes it is the sent folder, sometimes one of my contacts folder, sometimes the outbox folder.
If the problem is with one of my contacts then all I do is not use that contact. If the problem is with my sent folder then I can't send anything and I just go out of O/E and wait a few minutes and then try again. It is usually fine by then as the folder problem has moved to a differnt folder. It is getting frustrating. I have looked at the size of all the dbx folders and none of them are very big at all. I have it all backup up but it is annoying. Any ideas?

thanks

Shut down OE. Then try deleting the folders.dbx file and then start OE. See if that helps.

Back it up FIRST. Read this also before doing

Think about moving to something like Thunderbird or Windows Mail as they have much more stable message "databases" than OE. OE is known to be kind of fussy and unreliable over time.

Hey, thanks for that. I have tried that several times. But it still doesn't fix the problem. I know that the folder.dbx reindexes all the folders (I think) but the problem still reoccurs.

Cheers

Maybe create a new identity and import your messages one DBX at a time??? That might point to what is corrupted. Have you checked for hard drive problems using the manufacturer's hard drive utility? Have you run a chkdsk on the drive??

It's a tricky issue. I'd really dump OE. I use it, but I back up its data files every day BEFORE I open it up, so I'm covered (I think).
