i use a G4 mac with OS 9.2 For mail and a browser I use Outlook Express 5 together with IE5. Keying in a message early today I received the message that Outlook had quite due to error 2 (whatever that might be). Since then I have not been able to start either OE or IE. Just get the same error message.

Very important mail is held in this package so please help a worried man. Where does OE store its mail? Netscape used the preferences, but no sign of OE in there.

HE:p!

This may be a really obvious question but have you tried powering off your computer, waiting a minute or so, and then powering it back on? Its amazing what a hard boot will fix.

Cheers.

Thanks for the idea, but yes. I have even downloaded a slightly later version of OE but that came up with the same error message.
It is not a net connection fault because Mozilla connects without a problem.

I agree that the hard boot often fixes such problems, but not this time.

I got the following from It's question #7). I don't know if its any help but at least it tells you what "error 2" is.

What is a type 2 error?

A: This is an Address Error. Some piece of information was written to the wrong place in memory. Attempting to access data larger than a byte on an odd address (68000 processor) or an instruction at an odd address. Common causes and solutions: Init/Extension or Control Panel conflict. Insufficient memory for the operation being attempted, you could try allotting more memory to the application. The instruction being requested may not be supported on the CPU. i.e. an 030 request on an 68000 processor.

Cheers.

Thank for the idea, and I have also found this description of error 2, but my problem is how to get around it? I have certainly allocated buckets more memory, but to no avail.

I am still trying to discover where outlook keeps the mail messages. Unlike Netscape they do not appear in the preferences folder. Are they hidden in some way?

Have now discovered the problem. The internet file in the preference folder was currupted in someway. So removing it a creating a new one has solved things. Annoyingly MS does not label the pref. as anything to do with OE. I was assuming that this belomged to Netscape - similar logo.
