Hi,

I need to forward my Outlook Express email to my Hotmail email account, but I’m having a lot of trouble.

If I send an email to my Outlook account and I don’t open my Outlook account to see if it was delivered then the email will NOT be sent to my Hotmail account.

If I send an email to my Outlook account and I do open my Outlook account and I do open the delivered email, then later the opened email is forwarded to my Hotmail account.

So basically, what I’m saying is, emails delivered to my Outlook account are only forwarded to my Hotmail account if I open them and view them in Outlook first. This is of no use to me.

I need my Outlook account to forward all email sent to it to my Hotmail account, even if I never open my Outlook account for a week.

Here’s how I set up the email forwarding in Outlook Express:

[tt]Tools -> Message Rules -> Mail[/tt]

1. Select the conditions for your rule:
For all messages (I only checked the last box)

2. Select the actions for your rule:
Forward it to people (I only checked the fourth box)

3. Rule Description (click on the underlined value to edit it)
Apply this rule after the message arrives
For all messages
Forward it to people
Where people is written I entered my email address.

[tt]Select: OK[/tt]

Now you’ll receive a menu with three tabs.

I believe you only need to go under the Mail Rules tab.

Heading:
These rules will be applied to Mail messages.
New Mail Rule #1 (This box is checked)

Heading 2:
Rule Description (Click on the underlined value to edit it):
Apply this rule after the message arrives
For all messages
Forward it to test@test.com

[tt]Select: Apply Now[/tt]

I’m now brought to another page.
It states exactly what is written above except for one extra box.

[tt]Apply to folder: Inbox[/tt]

I didn’t change this field.

[tt]Select Apply Now[/tt]

Done. That’s exactly what I did.

Does anyone know what I did wrong? I have no idea what else I can do?

Thanks for taking the time to read all that!
Jenny

Hi,

- Outlook Express is at my home.
- I'm using version 5.5.
- I have a cabel modem.
- I don't have a firewall.

Is there any more info. you need?

Thanks,
Jenny

Rules set up with Outlook Express only run when Outlook Express itself is running. You need to see if your ISP (cable folks), have options to forward your mail. Until you run Outlook Express, the messages are stored on their server so Outlook doesn't know about them.

thats all the info I need Jenny!!!

I do the same thing for my outlook a/c.
What I do, is set up an account in Yahoo...( I dont know if the option is in Hotmail but it might be...) and set up an option to "Check Other Mail" in the "Check other (POP) Mail" page, in the "Options" page of Yahoo Mail when you have your account set up!!!!. And in that window, you can enter details about yout outlook account including your email server which the mail is on at your ISP, something like mail.host.com or what ever, and enter your username and password for your outlook account and it will pull your mail from the account and you can check it where ever you are without having to go near your outlook!!! And the best thing is that you can set it to leave the mail for outlook to recieve if you want, and for it only to recieve new mails!!!!
Its pretty cool and I think that solves your problem!!!

good luck!!! Jay~
