Outlook Express e-mail link not starting Explorer automatically

I am using Internet Explorer 6 and Outlook Express 6, and use Time Warner Road Runner as my ISP. If I start Outlook up first, without having Explorer up and running, and click on an internet link within an e-mail, the system hangs. I have to do a ctl-alt-dlt to close out both express and explorer. Everything works fine if I start up explorer first. This is quite annoying, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If above doesn't help...Tools/Internet Options/Programs..Interent Explorer should check to see if it the default browser ..tick box
