I am using Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 4 installed and all the current updates. I am using Outlook Express 6. When I select an email to be deleted and put it on my blocked senders list, the address appears on the list, but when I shut down Outlook Express and restart it, the list is cleared. I suspect this is because something was deleted from the registery. I have already learned the hard way not to trust Norton Utilities to "clean up" what IT thinks are unnecessary entries, so I only use it to identify possible old links and shortcuts and then I manually select the ones I want deleted. I apparently made a bad choice a while back and now have this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and God bless. James

In Regedit, navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}
\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express 5.0\Block Senders

where GUID is the Global Unique IDentifier for your Identity.

Click File|Export and save the selected branch to your desktop as a backup *.reg file. Then delete the Block Senders key from the registry.

This will make more sense when you navigate to that section of the registry.

As you would know it, there is nothing simple with my computer. I am assuming the {GUID} is the 32 digit number and letter combination. I navigated the path to "identities" and there are two different {GUID} numbers sub-folders under it, giving two completely different paths to follow. Both continued on to a point that ended up at a "Block Senders" folder, but there are a lot of differences between the two Identities. For reference I will call them version A & B.

Version A: As I navagate down I noticed that one the files on the right of the screen under the "Identities" folder is designated "Username" and the word to the right of it is an old password, "angel" which I use on various game sites of low importance. As I navagate further down to the "Block Senders folder, I fine "nine" other folders with it under the 5.0 folder.

Version B: I noticed that one the files on the right of the screen under the "Identities" folder is designated "Username" and the word to the right of it is, "Main Identity". As I navagate on down to the "Block Senders folder, I foubd "eleven" other folders with it under the 5.0 folder. Nine of them are the same as Version A, but there are two additional subfolders called "MailNote" and "NewNote"

Which Identity do I delete? If the computer works OK after the change, is there a reason to keep the copy of the old register section? I saw nothing designated as "key" so is the part I am to export and then delete the folder, "Block Senders"? Once again, thank you for your help. James

The elements or objects in the registry are called keys and values.

In any case, yes, export the "Block Senders" and then right-click, delete.

If somehow this change causes issues, just go to the saved files and double click then to merge their contents with the registry.
