Outlook express attachments are automatically stripped

I did an auto update on my home PC to get all of the latest patches needed from Microsoft. Not paying attention, I loaded a patch that strips the attachments from email, ( potential threat!). Does anyone know how to remove this. I would like to decide which attachments I would like to look at on my own! Thanks in advance
