Hi,

I'm trying to use outlook express to send mail using my
lotus notes SMTP server.(4.6.6b)

Every time I try to do this I get the error message
saying that the MTA is configured not to send mail from
[EHQPC039] to [hotmail] (Or wherever).

I have configured my server to stop spamming, however my workstation [ehqpc039] and my smtp server are on the same network.

How can I get my SMTP server to realise that this is not spamming and that it should send my mail.

Many thanks.
Damien.

Hi,

For anyone who needs to know.

I found what the problem was.

When the SMTP MTA receives a message it looks at who sent the message. In this case it some how picks up the host name of the PC sending the message. In my case this was ehqpc039. As soon as the MTA saw ehqpc039 and that the message was not bound for a user in my lotus notes domain it decided that this was spamming and dumped my meessage.

The way around this is to use DNS or in my case the hosts file on my SMTP MTA server. I entered my workstations details in the hosts file including the domain name
e.g. 196.156.23.23 ehqpc039.abc.co.uk

(You have to enter the domain name and I pressume that this domain name must be one of the domains in the Internet domain suffix (see the "Global domains" section of the PAB).

Anyways once the entry was made I can now use my SMTP server from any workstation as long as there is any entry in the hosts file.
