outlook express and attachments in shortcut folders

Hi,

I know this has been asked before but no one seems to have cured it.

My client uses outlook express for their mail, and often has to attach files from a network location. They have a shortcut on their desktop that points to the network folder but when they double click it it just puts the .lnk file in as an attachment rather than following the link and displaying the folders contents.

Is there any way of making OE follow the link?

They use XP SP2 and did have this working until recently. Nothing else has changed on the system.

Thanks,

Richard

If they got it to work I suggest they do the same thing again.

Basic problem is that they are attempting to "attach" a file and a "shortcut" is just that, a file. It does not take on the properties of the target(in this case a netfolder).

What can be done if this is really important, is a network connection can be established/mapped and assigned a drive letter on the client.

In mycomputer > tools > map network drive > select the drive letter and enter the net path and select "reconnect on logon" if you want it to persist. Or if all users need to connect to this location it can be made part of the logon script. These persistant connections do take some overhead so that you know.

Thanks,

Yep I was thinking of the mapped drive option. It's strange, I use outlook 2003 for my email client and never have this problem.

No one can remember how we had it set up before, and find it strange that is has suddenly stopped working.
