Outlook Express 6 spell check won't work

Spell check on Outlook Express won't work but worked fine several days ago.

one of two things happens.

1. if I press the ABC check it says "an error occured while spelling was being checked".

or if I just press send to the email its says

2. The spell check on this document was haulted, do you want to send it anyway?
