hi again,

I accidentally removed Outlook Express 6(via Add/Remove Programs) It said it will only remove the desktop shortcut so I wasn't too concerned ... until now.

When I open an email, I see only the Subject and To-From. The body of the email is blank and when I move the pointer into the body section, I get the hourglass. Same for creating an email - I cannot enter anything in the body.

Wierd.

Any ideas?

Thanks, John

I'm not sure how you open a mail message if you've removed OE, but anyway.... what version of Windows are you using? Assuming something pre-XP, try repairing your Internet Explorer.

Yes, smah - it is Windows 2000 Pro SP4 and I have IE6 SP2 I think.

Thank you.
John

I can't give exact instructions, but from Control Panel, Add & Remove Programs, Internet Explorer, there should be a repair or reinstall option. Alternatively, see the repair info near the bottom of this KB article
OE6 is included with IE6, so hopefully this will fix the problem.

Thank you smah - you pointed me in the right direction.
(I have Windows 2000)

I just accidentally fixed this tonight. This was no stroke of genius, just a stab in the dark. In the Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs, I noticed a section called 'Set Program Access and Defaults'. I clicked that and saw that the default for Email was "Use my current email program". I changed it to "Use Outlook Express". Then the (correct) shortcut appeared on my Taskbar. I clicked it and was able to view the body of Sent emails as well as emails in my Inbox.

(I had 2 MSIMN.exe files - the correct one is at:
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.exe)

I remember that a few years ago, people (myself included) were complaining that Microsoft was almost "forcing" people to use their email programs by making them a part of the operating system to the point that you cannot even remove the email program. Maybe the Microsoft gods are smiling on me tonight - that actually saved my butt :)
