Last night I recieved an email from a trusted friend that had an attachment, Something.exe.
I tried to execute it and got a message having to do with dll files. then I got a message that adder, exe was missing. Since then my email has gone out with strange messages to people who are in my address book but I didn't send. Does anyone know what virus this is and what virus protection I should get to prevent & or cure this in the future?
I presently don't have any.
Thanks
drdave

There are lots of virus which are sending mails to the contacts in your adress book. (Loveletter, shircam(?), nimda.... )

There is only one way to prevent it:

1. Install a Virusscanner with up to date definitions.
2. Install a Firewall to prevent illegal access from/to your computer.

I downloaded McAfee and was able to detect and clean or delete all the infected files.
There were 7 viruses found altogether.
Kentos advise was used to check another computer on my network through my primary computer and this yielded another virus (PE MAGISTR.B) in my win 98 computer. I had to delete all 43 files in that one. I guess I may have to reload it's system files again. I have not rebooted it yet to see what happens.
Thanks to all!
