I had the following problem:
Outlook 2003 fails to download all messages from pop.mail.yahoo.com, failing with error code 0x800CCC90. It keeps failing at the same point, and keeps retrieving the same messages over and over. I tried deleting all messages from the Yahoo account using the Yahoo Web Mail client, including from the trash. I even deleted and recreated the yahoo account in outlook. This drove me crazy for 2 days. I tried a lot of things, both in Outlook and Yahoo. I even resorted to calling Yahoo mail plus customer support. That was a complete waste of time.
In the end it turned out to be a bad or corrupt message which was sitting in the Spam folder on the yahoo side. I had not realized that Outlook was downloading those as well. When I manually emptied the Spam folder from the Yahoo web mail client, the problem went away. I can't believe Yahoo customer support did not have that in their list of things to check.
