I recovered Outlook.pst from a reformatted drive for a friend recently. I believe it was Outlook 2003. In any case, he can open his Contacts list, select a contact and write & send and email to that contact. However, if in Outlook he selects New, he is unable to direct his mail to contacts. It is as if an index is missing.

Does anyone know how to relink or reindex contacts to make them available when creating a 'New' email?

For Outlook 2003:

1. Select the "Contacts" section
2. Right click on "Contacts" in the "My Contacts" section
3. Select "Properties"
4. Select the "Outlook Address Book" tab
5. Check the checkbox next to "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book".
6. Click "OK".

Cheers.

CMeagan, thanks for the help. It was Outlook 2003, and the box next to "Show this folder as an e-mail address book" was already checked. My friend had misstated the problem to me. When I saw the dialogue popup I was able to google it finding the MS article (319901) which enabled me to relink his contacts with Outlook.

Again, thanks very much for your help.
