Outlook close message on delete?

I had a user recently complain about this.

They would open up a message and then go to the main Outlook window and delete the message from their Inbox, and the message remained opened.

Does anyone know of a setting to fix this behavior? For now I'm trying to train them to just use the delete button in the open message.

We are using version 2007+.

I know of no setting. AFAIK the behaviour has always been the same from OL97 on.

Even though the message is still "open" nothing can be done with it once it is deleted from the inbox. OL will pop up a message to the effect of "This message has been moved or deleted." Also, when you close OL with the message still open it will not be in your inbox the next time you open Outlook as you have deleted it from your inbox.

I did already understand the message was still deleted, I was just hoping against all that there MIGHT be a setting (in Outlook or Registry) to fix that behavior.
