The Outlook clients work fine if the old server is still running event though exchange has been removed from it. If that server is disconnected about 25% of my Outlook users stop responding the rest work fine. This all started after we moved the mailboxes from the old server to the new one. All mailboxes show there home server as being the new server.

Thanks

Shawn

Just a wild guess.....take a look at this article.

XCLN: Microsoft Exchange and/or Outlook Client Hangs Intermittently

------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Outlook 97, versions 8.0, 8.01, 8.02, 8.03
Microsoft Outlook 98
Microsoft Exchange Windows 95/98 client, versions 4.0, 5.0
Microsoft Exchange Windows NT client, versions 4.0, 5.0

------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
After you log on to an Exchange Server mailbox and access your mail messages, the client may appear to stop responding (hang) for several minutes before the user is able to continue working.

CAUSE
The profile contains incorrect information for a server that the client previously had need to connect to, and the server is no longer online or has been removed.

The incorrect registry entry is located the following key:

Windows 95/98
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<profile name>\<profile hex value>]
Windows NT
HKEY_USERS\<sid>\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<profile name>\<profile hex value>
001e660c"="INCORRECT_SERVERNAME

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, create a new profile.

MORE INFORMATION
This problem may occur because the server(s) that contained Site Folders was improperly removed. Site Folders consist of the Off-line Address Book folder (OAB), the Schedule+ Free Busy Information folder, and the Organizational Forms folder.

For more information, please see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Q152959 XADM: How to Remove the First Exchange Server in a Site

What happens is that if you edit the user profile to use your new server the outlook client tries to use the SID from the original server for authentication and while this is still running (with or without Exchange) everything will work. When the server goes offline authentication initially fails then the client has to look for a server. I have not tried this since I replaced our mail server but it may be that if you clicked the Check Name.. button when changing the profile these are the ones that worked, The solution is\was to delete the existing profile and create new. If you have a large number of profiles to set up investigate modiprof ( from MS website) or newprof (ORK).
