Is there any way to hookup an outlook client to an exchange server without that computer being on the network that the exchange server is on. For example if I have an exchange server with a public IP address and I have a client that would like to connect to it from home that has an ISP. How would she connect to my exchange server with outlook. I usually have them VPN into my network first and then connect to the exchange. This is an extra step that I would like to avoid if possible.

Thanks,
Josh

If you mean just using your outlook at home, and your mail server is online all the time, then it can be done.

If you have run into the problem that it doesn't connect with outlook, its the same problem I had.

When I configured outlook, I was trying to call pop or pop3.myserver.com the problem is my domain name is the only registration to internic to show I have a gateway to the internet that everyone can find. SO the only way to find me is by so when I put this in for email, it was like this:
my mail server is on my domain like servername.so this method works
(in mail client)
pop server

smtp server

if that is how yours is configured, it will work. If not, I've talked and made no sense :) hope it helps

Use POP3 or IMAP4 and you will be ok. Just make sure you can ping the IP and get to the right ports and that your mailbox/server has these protocols enabled. Dan
