Outlook Clear New Mail Flag?

Every time I receive an e-mail I have the new envelope indicator. If I open a message it marks it read and clears the indicator... I would rather not have to mark an item as read.

Any thoughts on a solution for this? I am not afraid of VBA if that is the right path. The only thought I had and did not know if it would work was something that would mark an item read and unread in VBA. Exposing a button to put it on is something to lookup too. Certainly if it was done via the UI that would do it. I'd have to research those steps.

You mean the envelope in the taskbar? Just switch off Outlook notifications.

Taskbar settings/Notification Area/Select which Icons appear on the taskbar/Microsoft Outlook/Off

I want it to notify me I have new messages. I just want to declare there are no new messages.

In Outlook 2010 and later, check out the [tt]Message Arrival[/tt] section under:

[tt]File > Options > Mail[/tt]

(in earlier versions, it was under the Tools menu somewhere)
