I have found that when I use Word as my E-mail editor in Outlook 2000, and the e-mail goes out over the internet, my autosignature double-spaces itself. I've messed with the AutoText entry in Word, trying it with different styles and paragraph formats, but nothing seems to work. It looks very unprofessional. Has anyone else noticed this, or more importantly, been able to fix it? Thank you.

I am assuming that the problem only occurs when you send emails over the Internet?

Have you tried recreating your signature?

Also, the way I created Autosignature was to create a new email, type in my Autosignature and mess around with the formatting, then select Autosignautre under the Tools option. I sent VERY long autosignatures to myself over the internet (to another address) and they came through OK.

Also, check your normal.dot as you may need to recreate that if its gotten itself confused (poor little thing).

Finally, this is what I got from Microsoft, although this may be teaching you how to suck eggs, in which case ignore it! :)

"How to Create an AutoSignature When You Are Using Word As Your E-mail Editor"

1. Open a new e-mail message.

2. On the Tools menu, click Options.

3. On the General tab, click E-mail Options.

4. Type a name for your new signature.

5. Under Create Your E-Mail Signature, type and format your e-mail signature.

6. Click OK twice.

NOTE: By default the AutoSignature is applied to forwards and replies, and to new e-mail messages.

You can also try creating a signature in Word, just the way you want it, then saving it as a HTML file. Then go to Outlook, Tools->Options, Mail Format Tab, Signature Picker, New, give it a name and 'Use File as Template'. Then browse to your HTML file and select it. And when you use this signature as default, it should come in and send ok, due to the fact that its using HTML instead of Rich Text or what ever.
Also note that if you are sending in Rich Text or HTML, and your receiver can only receive in Plain Text, then the signature will come out all over the place (or double spaced), this happens with users using OE basic and Internet Mail Accounts that dont support rich text.... Jay~

Thank you KeyTech, very good information. I will try the html file, but we are doing exactly what you said, sending in RTF to plain text recipients, so it may not be something we have control over. (Other than having the users turn Word off as their e-mail editor, then it's fine.)

To stop the mail signature coming out all over the place when users receive it in Plain Text, the best thing to do is to create your signature in plain text, or at least dont have any fancy text or sizes etc...so when the user receives the mail its not toooo different! Jay~
