Help. We are using Outlook to send clients email attachments (scanned documents from an HP scanner converted to PDF format). Everything appears fine when attaching the .pdf file, but when sent, the recipient gets a WINMAIL.DAT file which can't be opened.

How can we fix this?

Thank you

what you have to do is to turn TNEF off, this is what allows mails to be sent in different formats, eg, text or what ever. There might not be an option for it, but try this and see how it works...
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
In the Send in this message format list, select Plain Text or HTML, and then click OK.
Now try send the message and see if it works...
hope this helps!

Jay:

Thanks - I'll try it Monday when I get in the office.

Jay:

I tried your suggestion - Using Outlook 97 - Tools / Options (there is no mail format tab, and nothing referring to TNEF or Plain Text or HTML?)

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

OK...have I havent got Outlook97 on my machine, just 2000, so I cant really give you a step by step.....do a search in Outlook for 'Mail Format' and then see if you find anythin in there, then try and change the format to HTML or something....actually when you are sending a mail, go to Tools or one of the pull down menue's of the mail and see if there is anything in there....???

Just a suggestion..but are you using an exchange server, or just a stand alone PC with a dialup account???? if so there is an option to change in the Exchange Server in the advanced options of the connections protocol....???
Just a thought! Jay~
