when a particular user gets an Excel attachment in Outlook '98 and he tries to open it, you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified".
all workstations send and receive mail through an Exchange Server, and all workstations use either Outlook '97 or Outlook '98.As far as the version of Excel goes, all workstations use Office '97 on Windows '95.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Try these steps

1. Close outlook
2. open Excel
3. On the tools menu click Options
4. on the General tab click Ignore other applications and click OK
5. Exit Excel
6. Reboot just for fun
7. Open outlook and try to open the file.

LEt me know if this works for you.

I would check what the file association for the .xls file extension is pointing. Check the path for where Windows is looking for excel.exe joegz
