When one opens a MS Word attachment from Outlook, I noticed that the file name has (2) next to it. Anyone knows why?
Also, when I have this attachment opened and just add stuff to it is there a temp file created somewhere?
I had a user who did just that and then she claimed that she just saved the file. She didn't use "Save as" but just "Save". When she went back the next day and opened the file from Outlook again she didn't have any changes she made the day before. Anyone knows where she could find the file she worked on?

Thanks
Tarsier

Re Question #1. This is because when the attachment opens it opens as a temp file. The (2) should mean that a document attachment with the same name was previously opened and is still in the OLK cache (see #3 below).

Re Question #2. Yes, the temp file should be created in the location given in my reply to Question #3 below.

Re Question #3. The user might be able to find the file at C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\OLK. I think that's the exact path but it may be something close to that. I used CCleaner the other day so it wiped my temp files and I'm going from memory.

The reason that I say might is because if Outlook works as it should then the temp file gets deleted when the message and/or Outlook is closed. However, MS doesn't do the greatest job of clearing temp files. That's why I use CCleaner.

Cheers.
