Call me stuck in my ways if you must but Im an exchange kinda guy. Love the collaboration and the ease of use. Im back in an environment that I thought I had left with IBM but these people simply refuse to see my point.

Can I poll an R5 server for mail. I made a half attempt but as expected I encountered difficulties in running both clients (Notes 5.0.4 and Outlook 2000). The server is a 4.6.7 which I'll be taking to 5 sometime soon.

If I cant get this working Ill set up my own personal exchange server and they can all go jump :)

Im looking for advice on getting a client system to poll a notes 4.6.7 server for mail using O2K as client.....ideas?

I would be interested to hear what difficulties you had doing this. It can be done, but it just too darn slow. I did it some time ago but went back to just using Notes, it was much easier. Let me know what probs you had I'll see if I can lend a hand.

Well Im a step further than I was before.
Reconfiguring mail support and installing the notes option from cd means that I can now perform email functions from within Outlook.Speed doesnt seem to be a problem.

My problem now is in accessing the databases. Im working on finding out how to display and post to them with the right forms etc.

All this so I can cal it a hyperlink instead of a hotspot.

Ill keep you posted and ask for any ideas

I am trying to access R5 mail server using Outlook Express client but failed. I am not sure what should I setup for the incoming and outgoing mail server. As on the Notes client, I just open up the database and select my mail folder.
I used to be able to send mail using Outlook Express by just defining the outgoing mail server as the IMAP type, but it does not work anymore.
Anyone can help?

set up pop3 on your notes server and you can access it from Outlook [Express] clients without problems

Login credentials : look in person document,
username = shortname
password = internet password

On a R5 server, all you have to do to run pop3 is

Load pop3

I think you're all doing this the hard way. Get the iNotes client from Lotus. Much, much easier.

I've done more R5 deployments than I care to think about.

Much easier if it worked! Mike - how did your install of Synch Manager go? We've got everything configured but after clicking on the link to download, the synch manager hangs and the cpu usage tops out. After rebooting and trying to start iNotes, it asks for a Master Password, which no one can figure out.

Thanks,
MLP
