Hi All

Praying that someone can help me with this..

I've just setup Squid installed ok and i've got all PC's happily working with Internet Explorer.. However, I'm unable to get outlook working and I don't know why or how to fix-it..

If anyone out there has got any ideas or thoughts please let me know..

Thanks in advance..

Hi,

Squid has nothing to do with Outlook as both are for different things.

Squid is a proxy for viewing web pages, usually installed on the server and all clients point to it so as to be able to get web access.

Outlook is an email client installed on the client PC. It needs to connect to your email server to download all the mails received by that particular user.
To enable a server to receive emails, you need a domain name. Once you get a domain name, you need to configure your DNS server. Once your DNS server is up and running, you will need to configure your mail server (ie. Sendmail, Qmail, Exim, Postfix, etc). Then you will need to configure your POP3 service on the server as well.

Suffice to say, all this is not easy, with DNS being the worst to configure.
I suggest that you get a good book on at least configuring DNS and a copy of either one of those mail daemons). Save you a huge sum to be paid to your psychiatrist, or to be paid to repair your wall, your clumps of hair, etc.

BTW, what server are you running ?

Mails need two services, three actually if you take DNS into account. These two are SMTP and POP3. SMTP is a protocol that mail servers and clients use to send mail to their receipients. POP3 or IMAP is another protocol that clients use to retrieve their mails from the email server. These two need to be configured for mail to work. Of course, before that you will need to make sure that DNS is operating correctly. A non-working DNS configuration will cause you a lot of problems.

Regards.
