Hi I wonder if anyone can help with this problem. I have a laptop set up to connect to Exchange server or to a pop account. It used to be able to send when connected to the internet and the pop account, and can still receive mail sent to the pop account. However, it won't send.

On the other hand, Outlook Express will both send and receive e mail for that account, but my boss wants to use Outlook for everything.

A few months ago we put some vpn software on, not sure if that would have made a difference.

I am logged on as the user, but Outlook doesn't seem to let me choose which account to send from. At the beginning I get something saying it cannot connect to Exchange server and asking if I want to work offline, or use a pop account. I choose this, but still it will only receive not send using the pop account.

Thanks for any help

Kathy

Sounds like there were a few changes made during the VPN install. Have you checked that the SMTP address for the pop account is correct? Did it work properly before the install?

Thanks Dollar,

It seems to be because Outlook didn't know which account to use to send from, although I am not 100% sure of this. Even with the VPN removed it still won't send when connected to the POP account- it has both internet mail and Exchange server in the services but I cannot see anywhere where there is a choice about which account to send from. As it will send ok from Outlook Express, I will try to persuade my boss to use that. Unless anyone can suggest a work around

Cheers
Kathy

I have run into the exact same problem. I after puttering around in outlook for a bit I have discovered what the problem is but do not yet know how to fix it. When the account in question was made it was made and an exchage server account. As such it will only send though the exchange server while exchange server is still part of that outlook profile. Now this is a big problem in Outlook 98(in outlook 2000 and up there are settings in order to be able to work around this as well) because you can't safely delete the exchange server setting, even if you no longer use it, because if the account was created using it then it will delete you default profile and you don't want that to happen. I will try and post agian when I fix it. Bloody microsoft!
