i had to buy a new laptop and of course i had to install all my software- which was working fine on my old pc

after i installed outlook 2002 on the new laptop (win xp now) i am getting the activation popup. i have the product code that came with the CD, which i had no trouble with, but why do i keep getting the activation popup if i entered the correct product code?

1- how do i get rid of the popup if activation keeps telling me that another pc has already activated it, (that was my old pc that crashed on me, which is why i had to buy the new laptop)

2- where do i go from here- i just want my outlook to work as it did on my old pc- without the popup!

TIA!

Activation is separate from installation. In Outlook 2003 you activate by going Help ->activate product and following the instructions. It should be something similar in OL2K2. You will need to be connected to the internet to activated it.

Also, if your Outlook 2002 is an OEM version you can;'t move it to a new computer. It can only be used on the computer for which it was originally meant.

Cheers.

cm- that's just it....when i do go on-line to activate outlook, I am told that it was already activated on another pc and that i need to contact MS for assistance- i don't have time to call MS when it's my software and did not have the pop-up on my old pc. i just don't want to see the popup again!

any ideas on how to disable the pop-up without having to call MS?

You can't disable the pop-up. You have to phone MS and explain the situation. When make major changes to your hardware, even on the same machine, you have to reactivate. You didn't have pop-ups on your old machine because that had the original install of OL2K2.

If the software is an OEM version then MS won't reactivate it for you. As previously stated, an OEM version stays with the machine it was purchased with or for, even if that machine dies.

MS introduced activation to try and stop licensing abuse and piracy.

Also, be aware that after a certain number of uses the software will stop working if you haven't activated it. In Office 2003 it's 50 combined uses (any combination of OL, Word, Excel, etc.).

Cheers.
