if you go to tools>options>spelling under "general options" and select "ignore original message text in reply and forward"

the spell checker is only supposed to check the new part of the message before sending out.

problem is that it continues to check the whole thing anyway - it doesn't seem to work at all.

same issue on everyone's pc. we're not using exchange server here, but that shouldn't matter with something like, spell check - should it How much more water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?

To get the spell checker to work taht way you need to turn off the tick mark for the origional text. Go to Tools/Options/Send/Plain Text Settings and uncheck the Indent Origional Text... Box.

Thanks for your response - could you be a little more specfic - I went into Tools/options but i didn't see anything that said send/plain text/indent original check box.

I did see the option that allows you to choose which e-mail editor to use - and I tried changing to to msword, but that didn't resolve the issue either. How much more water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?

Its odd that you cant find the send tab under the Tools/Options. What were are looking for is the mail sending format. This needs to be set to plain text, there should also be a button to click on to change the settings for plain text.
If you cant find it send me an email to the address below and I'll give you my 800 number and I'll see if I can walk you through it over the phone.

hi - i certainly appreciate your willingness to help me -

i found tools/options/mail format tab/message format section/ and a drop down box that enables you to choose plain text, html, microsoft outlook plain text or microsoft word. - is this what you are referring to?

are we talking about the same version here - we're on outlook 98

there is definitely no "send" tab visible to me under tools options - maybe it's due to the fact that we are not using exchange on the backend? How much more water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?

Yes, that is what I am refering to. The machine I was looking at used to have outlook 98 on it and I forgot I upgraded it :( But the solution is still the same. You may just have to look around a bit to find it. You just need to turn off the quoting character > or | from the text area.

i'm sorry, but i still don't see what you're talking about - specifically I see no reference at all to anything called a "quoting character > or |" from the text area.

Under that particular option of "message format" on the "Mail Format" tab there are only two buttons. One is "Settings" the other is "international options". Under settings you can either place can use MIME or UUEncode, and "international options" doesn't give me anything I can use.

If you would like - email your 800# to croce_st@willis.com and maybe we can chat - if/when we figure it out, I'll post back the resolution here. How much more water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?

Guess what - I found what you are talking about - for me, it's actually Tools>Options>Preferences>Email Options>On Replies/Forward Section -

in there you have to change the "When replying to a message" section to something other than "prefix each line with..." I changed mine to "include and indent original message text".

Next, if there's anything next to the part that says "prefix each line with" - you have to delete it out - When I did this I even got a message from outlook itself confirming that if there is something in that box, it will cause spell check to check everything. It used to have a "<" in there.

It seems to work fine now. How much more water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?
