Outlook 98 Default Bullet Style

This seems too easy to post here, but it has stumped me! In Outlook 98 using RTF as the default message format, when using bullets in a mail message, it comes out as a diamond instead of a normal bullet. I know this can be changed by using Word as the editor or using HTML and the stationary picker, but how can it be changed using RTF as the default editor? It must be easy surely?
