I've got Outlook 2000 on two computers, one at home and one at work. The work computer has XP Pro, the home computer XP Home.

When downloading e-mails at work, I get an informative popup message that says it's downloading x number of messages with a progress bar.

At home all I get is a message saying it's checking for mail and sending outgoing messages with an animated graphic of envelopes flying back and forth...no indication of how many e-mails or what progress has been made in their download.

What do I need to change on my home machine so that I can get the detailed popup instead of the dumb one?

::)

Hi
I assume the "animated graphic of envelopes flying" is in the bottom right corner of the main outlook window. Simply double click (or right click) and select the option to show details.
As an FYI: I haven't used Off2K in ages, in 2003 it's a single left click which will pop-up an option to "Show details" and "Cancel Send/Receive". I believe you're looking for the "Show details" option.
Once you have the dialog up, remove the tick to "hide" that dialog - in 2k3 it's "Dont show during send/receive"
Hope this helps

Dollar,

Nope, it's a new popup. The graphic has a in/out box on the left and a globe on the right with envelopes flying between them. The only text says "Checking for new messages and sending outgoing messages." The only button is "Cancel." Right clicking only gives the option of moving or closing the popup.

On the computer at work I get the show details option, etc. as you described.

I'm starting to wonder if the difference might be in XP Home and XP Pro and not Outlook itself....

::)

Ah - ok! I totally know which one you mean now. I don't think it's XP Home vs Pro issue, but I don't have the older version to verify that. It's quite probably a check box in the Advanced E-mail options (Tools -> Options) that is unchecked, which is quite possibly only available in an Exchange environment. Like I said - it's been a while :)

That said, you might find use for the add-in at:

Hope this helps
