Outlook 2K: New mail messages

Internal and external e-mails are being delayed in
Outlook 2000. I have to click on something in outlook then the new email appears. For example, when I open Outlook it appears that I do not have any new messages. I click on an old messages & as many as 8-12 messages pop up as unread messages. I checked the server for options on delayed messages everything appears to be normal. Any suggestions on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible that your Internet Email is set to NOT automatically check email? Click on Inbox icon, then click on Tools, Options, Internet Email and click on "Check My Local Network Connection for new mail every X minutes".
