I have a friend with a small company, about 8 employees with desktops and Outlook 2013. His website/email are hosted via Yahoo. Initially, he had email set up via IMAP, and it seemed to be working fine for him, as some of the employees needed to check email from home and wanted access to their same setup as at work. But then he started getting IMAP server connection failures. After a quick call to Yahoo, he found that IMAP was no longer supported for desktop clients and that he should be using a POP configuration for desktop clients instead, although it works fine for mobile devices.

The users have entries in their calendars, and folders configured under INBOX, so he can't just dump the IMAP profiles and set up as POP.

What's the least problematic way to help him past this? My suggestion was to dump Yahoo and go with a provider that supported IMAP for desktop clients :)

Then, over the weekend different users would intermittently have issues with not being able to send email from desktop. They could log into webmail and send/rcv with no problems.

Is Yahoo just really that broken?
