Outlook 2010 Crashes With Microsoft Exchange Add-In

Hi,

I just purchased Microsoft Office 2010 Professional. Before installing it, I uninstalled Office 2007 and rebooted. When I installed Office 2010 the installation went fine. However when I tried to open Outlook, it crashed. After doing some investigating I uninstalled all my add-ins in safe mode. I then added them back one by one until I found the culprit which was the add-in for Microsoft Exchange. I tried running setup again and using the repair option hoping that the dll was installed incorrectly but that didn't make any difference.

My question is what does the Microsoft Exchange add-in do and could I live without it? I have earthlink as my ISP. I am using the 32 bit version of Office 2010 Professional on a Windows 7 64 bit operating system. Could I just delete the dll and reinstall it? Why is this causing outlook to crash on my machine?

I believe the Microsoft Exchange add-in is related to your anti-virus software. What Anti-virus product are you using and does it support Office 2010 (or at least Outlook)?

Rather than uninstall the add-in try just disabling it until you find out the consequences.

Hope this helps.

I am using NOD32 by ESET. I am not sure if it works with outlook 2010. When I was using outlook 2007 I didn't have to disable any add-ins and it worked without a problem, although I never looked to see what add-ins we enabled. I have disabled the add-in and outlook works fine.

AVG had a like named add-in. I use Kaspersky 2010 now and it's add-in is named Kaspersky Outlook Anti-Virus add-in.

I believe if you disable it then your e-mail is not scanned for viruses and any virus is only caught (by your workstation anti-virus) after you open the infected e-mail/attachment.

I'm assuming that you do not use an Exchange Server.

Hope this helps.

I called ESET and they said that their anti-virus program has nothing to do with the Microsoft Exchange add-in. Since I only log into Earthlink and I don't have any problems doing that with the add-in disabled I am not going to worry about it for now. If I ever need to log onto a Microsoft Exchange Server, then I will contact Microsoft.
