I used to have a clickable link on the left side of the screen that would take me to my unread messages. I no longer see it and can't figure out how to re-establish it.

I think that you're looking for the 'Favorite Folders' in the navigation pane. If it has been removed, you can add it back using View, Navigation Pane, Favorite Folders.

Thank you Smah,

It is the navigation pane that I am talking about and it contains links to Inbox and Sent Items. But what I lost was a link to a folder that I think was named Unread Items and it only included those messages that I had not yet read. How can I get it back?

Is the 'Favorite Folders' section visible in the navigation pane? If not, add it using the View menu as mentioned above.

If it is there, but not expaned, click the down-pointing chevron to the right of 'Favorite Folders'.

Smash, The 'Favorite Folders' section is both visible and expanded; but the only folders that I see are Inbox and Sent. I no longer see a folder for 'Unread Messages'.

OK, Right click in some empty space within the 'Favorite Folders' section and select New Search Folder. Then select 'Unread Mail' & search in Personal Folders.

When I click on the empty space within the 'Favorite Folders' section, the only choice close to the one you suggest is New Folder... When I click on that, I do see various folders under Personal Folders, but not one that says 'Unread Mail'. (I am using Microsoft Outlook 2007 if that makes any difference.)

Smah, I just made things worse. NBow I don't see 'Favorite Folders' in the navigation pane. And when I click View > Navigation Pane, I only have options like Normial, Minimize, Off and Current View Pane.

It does seem a bit fussy about exactly where to right click, but if the Favorites folder is no longer available at all in the View menu, there might be a bigger problem. It might be worthwile to run the Office Diagnostics tool under the Help menu.

Smah, I really appreciate your help. Office Diagnostics did not detect any errors. However, I did finally get to the 'New Search Folder' about which you wrote. Here's how. At the end of the folder list within Personal Folders, I found a folder named 'Search Folders'. I right clicked on it and it brought up the 'New Search Folder' option. Then, following your instructions, I was sucessful in creating the 'Unread Mail' folder. So we are almost there.

As it stands now, the Navigation Pane shows 'All OutLook Folders' and under that it lists 'Personal Folders'. The Last folder in that section is 'Search Folders' and under that is the newly created 'Unread Mail' folder. What I now need to do is get a 'Favorite Folders' to appear above 'Personal Folders' and move "Unread Mail" to that group. Like, I have said before, clicking View > Navigate Pane does not allow me to turn on Favorite Folders. Any suggestions?

Smah, PLEASE IGNORE MY LAST MESSAGE. I just went back into Microsoft Outlook and 'Favorite Folders' is back! And my original problem has been solved (thanks to your help) because it includes an 'Unread Mail' folder.

THANK YOU.
