Outlook 2007 - unread emails end up in deleted items folder

We have a user who is using Outlook 2007 and is witnessing a strange behavior where some unread emails go straight into the "Deleted Items" folder. He has no rules or block lists and strangely enough these emails do not even go into the Inbox first.

Please Note:
This is only happening to some emails and not all.
We have in house scanning software, but it is not at fault since we are only experiencing this for one user and not all.

Create a new Outlook profile and see if the problem goes away. Or flip the user to OWA for a day or so and see if it goes away.
