Hi,
Is there any way to find a folder in Outlook - not just an email inside a folder but the actual folder itself. I have someone with dozens and dozens of folders created within their Inbox (no lectures please). They would like to be able to find a folder by using the search tool.

Is there any way to do this?

TIA,

Best,

1. Tools ->Instant Search ->Advanced find (or Ctrl+Shift+F). Click on the "Advanced" tab.
2. Select "Any type of Outlook item" from the "Look for" dropdown.
3. In the "Define more Criteria" section from the "Field" dropdown select "In folder" from the "All Mail Fields" section.
4. Type the name of the folder that you are trying to find in the "Value" section.
5. Click "Add to list" and then "Find now". All mail items in the specified folder will show in the find box.

If you are looking for a specific e-mail in the selected folder then you can just add additional criteria before clicking on "Find now".

If you maximize the search window then you can sort your e-mails just like you can if you were actually in the folder.

Hope this helps.

Another, and easier way is, with the Inbox selected, simply type the name of the folder and the folder that you are looking for will show with a box around it. Then you can select that folder.

The caveat with this method is that it only works going down the list from the Inbox. If you look for a folder called "tips" and then from there try to find one called "tech" you won't find it without first going back to a folder above the one that you're looking for.

Hope this helps.

cmeagan656,
Thanks for the second post - that's so easy! Really appreciate it!

I'm glad one of my suggestions worked to your liking. After I posted the first suggestion I got to thinking that there just had to be an easier way.

Cheers.

Hope this helps.
